Ahead of its Dreamforce conference in San Francisco later this week, Salesforce has introduced several groundbreaking updates to Slack, designed to consolidate company knowledge, data, agents, apps, and automation into a unified, agent-powered work operating system. New Slack Innovations.

The latest enhancements to Slack include:

  • Agentforce in Slack: The new user interface (UI) for Agentforce enables teams to interact with their data, extract insights, and execute tasks directly within Slack. Users can communicate in natural language to receive responses grounded in both structured CRM data and unstructured conversational inputs. Agentforce can provide status updates on opportunities and cases, suggest next steps, draft emails and action plans, and share information via direct messages or channels.
  • Third-Party AI Agents: Users can now build custom agents using purpose-built APIs or install third-party agents from the Slack Marketplace. New offerings include partners such as Adobe Express, Cohere, and upcoming additions from Anthropic, Amazon Q Business, Perplexity, IBM, Asana, Box, Workday, and Writer.
  • Salesforce Channels Integration: Salesforce channels now bring CRM data, including opportunities, cases, and custom objects, directly into Slack. Users can edit and update CRM data within Slack and access Slack AI conversation summaries in Salesforce channels to review key highlights. Metadata mapping ensures that Salesforce channels comply with user permissions, and users can easily set up templated channels for specific projects, such as managing tasks or gathering feedback.
  • Enhanced Templates and Guidance: The Templates hub in Slack offers solutions with best practice guidance for various tasks and projects. Users can generate new channels tailored to specific needs, complete with pre-set canvases, lists, and automated workflows.
  • AI-Powered Functionality: Slack now includes advanced AI features for search and automation. Slack AI provides improved search results, generates answers from various file types, and leverages retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to enhance data retrieval.
  • Collections and Workflow Automation: Slack offers ready-to-use collections of templated channels, canvases, lists, and workflows. AI Workflow Builder now supports simple conversational prompts, allowing users to create and automate workflows effortlessly. Features include a new summarize channel step for recurring updates.

Denise Dresser, CEO of Slack, commented on the updates: “Slack’s agent-powered work operating system is transforming productivity by seamlessly integrating purpose-built AI, customer data, and automation into the everyday workflow. This innovation isn’t just about improving how work gets done—it’s about unlocking new levels of productivity to drive business success across every team and department. In a complex work environment, true productivity demands a future-ready work operating system, and Slack is leading the way.”
