Using Salesforce Template Records in Quip
Template Records allow dynamic integration between Salesforce data and Quip templates. When a document is created from an embedded template, the Template Records automatically populate with relevant data and stay synced to Salesforce. Control which fields are displayed to ensure information remains relevant, fostering better adoption of tools like Account Plans.
Setting Up Salesforce Template Records
- Permissions and Requirements
- Available in: Lightning Experience.
- Required Permissions: Customize Application.
- Important: Template Records are exclusive to templates. Ensure the document is marked as a template and remains unlocked for use.
- Adding a Salesforce Template Record
- In a document, type
@Salesforce Record
and click Insert. - Choose Template Record.
- Select the related Salesforce object (e.g., Account for Account Plans) and click Next.

- Manual Mode: If the desired object isn’t listed or for related objects, manually enter the Record ID.
- Dynamic Updates: Use mail merge syntax to dynamically update fields (e.g.,
[[Account.Owner.Id]]
). Note: Syntax is case-sensitive. - Choose fields to display and auto-populate with Salesforce record data.
- Finalizing Your Template
- After setup, the selected fields will appear in the document, initially blank.
- Add the completed template to the Quip Document Component. Users can then generate documents with pre-populated Salesforce data like Account Plans.
Key Considerations
- All fields for the selected object type are visible during setup, even if not part of the record layout.
- The Salesforce Record Live App doesn’t filter fields, so plan your template designs accordingly.
