Sensitive Information De-identification

Using Google Cloud Data Loss Prevention with Salesforce for Sensitive Data Handling This insight discusses the transition from detecting and classifying sensitive data to preventing data loss using Google Cloud Data Loss Prevention (DLP). Sensitive Information De-identification for Salesforce is used as the data source to demonstrate how personal, health, credential, and financial information can be de-identified in unstructured data in near real-time. Overview of Google Cloud DLP Google Cloud DLP is a fully managed service designed to help discover, classify, and protect sensitive data. It easily transitions from detection to prevention by offering services that mask sensitive information and measure re-identification risk. Objective The goal was to demonstrate the ability to redact sensitive information in unstructured data at scale. Specifically, it aimed to determine whether sensitive data, such as credit card numbers, tax file numbers, and health care numbers, entered into Salesforce communications (Emails, Files, and Chatter) could be detected and redacted. Constraints Tested De-identifying Data with Google Cloud DLP API Instead of detailing the setup, this section focuses on the key areas of design. Google Design Decisions Supporting Disparate Data Sources with Multiple Integration Patterns and Redundant Design Salesforce Data Source De-identification targets include email addresses, Australian Medicare card numbers, GCP API keys, passwords, and credit card numbers. Credit card numbers are masked with asterisks, while other sensitive data is replaced with information types for readability (e.g., [email protected] becomes [redacted-email-address]). Sample Requests to Google De-identification Service JSON Structure to De-identify Text Using Google Cloud DLP API jsonCopy code{ // JSON structure } JSON Structure to De-identify Images Using Google Cloud DLP API jsonCopy code{ // JSON structure } Salesforce Design Decisions Redundancy and Batch Processing A scheduled batch job allows for recovery by polling unprocessed records. To handle large data volumes (e.g., 360,000 records over 5 days), the Salesforce BULK API is used to process queries and updates in large batch sizes, reducing the number of API calls. Sensitive Information De-identification Google Cloud Data Loss Prevention allows detecting and protecting assets with sensitive information, supporting a wide range of use cases across an enterprise. Proven Capabilities: Considerations and Lessons Learned Enhanced Email: Redacting tasks and EmailMessage records, handling read-only EmailMessage records by deleting and recreating them. Files: The architecture assumes files with sensitive data can be deleted and replaced with redacted versions. Audit Fields: Ensure setting CreatedDate and LastModifiedDate fields using original record dates. Field History Tracking: Avoid tracking fields intended for de-identification, tracking shadow fields instead. Image De-identification: Limited to JPEG, BMP, and PNG formats, with DOCX and PDF not yet supported. Digital BSS for Telecom Profits

Digital Business Support Systems (BSS) play a critical role in managing essential functions such as billing, rating and charging, customer experience, CRM, fulfillment, and revenue management within communications service providers (CSPs). However, the scope of a comprehensive digital BSS stack extends beyond these core functionalities to enable, monetize, and manage new digital services and partnerships. This transformation is particularly crucial for CSPs transitioning into digital service providers (DSPs), especially in anticipation of the 5G era. Let’s delve into how a robust digital BSS transformation solution can drive profitability. Anticipating Customer Churn Telecom companies can leverage advanced analytics across BSS, OSS, CRM, and other systems to extract actionable insights from customer usage, transactions, complaints, billing, and social media data. Predictive modeling identifies potential churners, enabling targeted offers, promotions, and services aimed at retaining and nurturing loyal customers. Personalizing Customer Experiences Today’s digital consumers expect personalized interactions. Implementing a digital BSS stack empowers telecom companies to capture and utilize interaction data for tailored customer engagements. Whether resolving network issues, rewarding loyalty, or suggesting relevant offers, AI and deep learning algorithms ensure real-time responses that enhance customer satisfaction and increase ARPU (Average Revenue Per User). Innovating Service Offerings Cloud-based services are increasingly popular among consumers and businesses. A robust BSS solution allows operators to seamlessly integrate these services with traditional offerings, fostering innovation and boosting ARPU. Driving Agility and Efficiency A cloud-based BSS solution enhances business agility to support emerging technologies such as IoT and M2M systems. It streamlines partnership management and product launches in complex market landscapes, enabling providers to swiftly seize new opportunities. Retaining Profitable Customers Customer acquisition costs highlight the importance of retaining profitable customers. Integrated BSS and OSS applications provide telecom companies with comprehensive insights into customer behavior, facilitating convergent billing, tiered pricing models, and targeted incentives that enhance customer loyalty and lifetime value. Boosting Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) Telecom companies strive to increase ARPU by introducing compelling new services. Integration of customer-facing BSS systems with service delivery mechanisms accelerates provisioning and enables the launch of innovative offerings that drive revenue growth. In conclusion, a modernized and robust BSS infrastructure is indispensable for telecom companies looking to differentiate their services, elevate customer experiences, and capitalize on evolving market dynamics. By harnessing advanced analytics, embracing cloud-based solutions, and integrating diverse systems, telcos can unlock growth opportunities and enhance profitability in a competitive marketplace. Can You Use Salesforce for Project Management

Can You Use Salesforce for Project Management?

Salesforce has evolved beyond its CRM origins, offering a plethora of functionalities. However, managing projects directly within Salesforce presents challenges as it lacks full project management capabilities. Yet, there are three viable options: Option 1: Basic Project Management Features in Salesforce For small teams with modest needs, leveraging built-in Salesforce features alongside platform customization may suffice initially. While these features—such as Salesforce Tasks, Chatter, Reports, Dashboards, and Process Builder—offer basic functionality, they may fall short for most teams as projects grow in complexity. Option 2: Project Management Apps External to Salesforce As project needs expand, integrating well-known external project management tools like Microsoft Project, Asana, Monday.com, or Smartsheet becomes a common choice. However, such integration necessitates customizations, often involving Salesforce admins and external consultants, increasing implementation costs and posing data security challenges. Additionally, limitations like limited data sharing, delayed data access, and potential integration disruptions during Salesforce updates may arise. Option 3: Salesforce-native Project Management Apps on AppExchange Opting for PM apps built specifically for Salesforce and available on AppExchange offers a seamless alternative. Leading examples include Inspire Planner, TaskRay, Mission Control, and Milestones PM+. These native apps offer several advantages: Integration: Built using Salesforce technology, native apps seamlessly integrate with standard and custom Salesforce objects, eliminating the need for additional integration efforts. Flexibility: Native apps allow extensive customization, enabling users to tailor them to specific needs by adding custom objects, fields, workflow rules, and more. Integration with other AppExchange apps further expands functionality. 360-degree View of Customer: Associating projects with other Salesforce objects provides real-time visibility into customer activities, facilitating comprehensive reporting and analysis. Security: Native apps inherit Salesforce’s robust security infrastructure, ensuring data security and compliance with existing security settings and sharing rules. Real-time Reporting: Synced data enables real-time reporting and analytics, offering insights into key trends and bottlenecks. Automation: Native apps leverage Salesforce’s Process Builder for powerful automation, enabling automated project launches, task assignments, and role-based task allocations based on predefined templates. Organizations have three main options for project management with Salesforce. While built-in features cater to basic needs, external project management tools require integration efforts and may encounter limitations. On the other hand, Salesforce-native project management apps from AppExchange offer seamless integration, flexibility, and enhanced functionality. Ultimately, the choice depends on your organization’s needs and priorities. For assistance developing your Salesforce org for better project management, contact Tectonic today. Salesforce Mobilepush

Salesforce Mobilepush

Salesforce MobilePush is included in Corporate and Enterprise editions. Salesforce Marketing Cloud’s MobilePush feature powers the creation and delivery of notifications to encourage app usage. To effectively target your notifications, leverage user data from various channels. Push notifications, resembling SMS text messages and mobile alerts, are exclusive to users who have installed your app. Each mobile platform – iOS, Android, Fire OS, Windows, and BlackBerry – has its own services supporting push functionality. To send a push notification in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), utilize the Outbound Message template in MobilePush. You can send push messages to mobile devices based on demographic attributes, including rich media content like images or videos. Push notifications operate as brief messages sent directly from app publishers to users’ mobile devices. Users don’t need to actively use the app or their phones to receive these notifications. They serve as a prompt and efficient means for brands to convey important information. In Salesforce, you can employ push notifications to notify sales managers of changes in opportunities or alert service agents to cases requiring immediate attention. These notifications can be configured for any object based on criteria set up in Salesforce Flow automation. The key distinction between a push notification and an app notification lies in their impact on users. A push notification brings users to the application, initiating engagement, while an in-app notification guides users within the app. The working principle is that push notifications can be received at any time, while in-app notifications are effective only when the application is open. Salesforce Order Management

Salesforce Order Management Explained

An Entire Solution for Commerce In addition to both B2B and B2C Commerce Cloud, Salesforce has introduced Order Management, an application constructed on the core Salesforce platform. This application facilitates order fulfillment through automated workflows. What is Salesforce Order Management? It’s a platform for managing orders, customer records, fulfillment, inventory visibility, payments and invoicing, and customer care. Since Order Management is integrated with Salesforce CRM, it enables seamless integration with Service Cloud, assisting in handling customer requests and returns. Moreover, the Salesforce Platform can be leveraged to address any specific custom requirements you may have. Use Order Management with Service Cloud to give service agents a single view of order and service history to ensure timely processing of requests. Order Management is your central hub for handling all aspects of the order lifecycle, including order capture, fulfillment, shipping, payment processing, and service. The entire batch of data involved is all in one place, one single system of truth. With the Order Management app: Salesforce Mobile App The Salesforce mobile app is designed for easy data access on the go. You can view Salesforce Order Management record pages on the mobile app, but you can’t access its console features, like screen flows. Use Order Management to automate and manage the order lifecycle from order capture through fulfillment and post-fulfillment service. You can also store data for orders that are managed outside of Order Management. Order Management objects, together with existing objects, represent the elements of an order as the order progresses through the order lifecycle. The process for creating records in Order Management depends on your storefront. For example, if you use Salesforce B2C Commerce, the B2C Commerce Integration imports order data into Order Management. The terms “item” and “product” are used interchangeably throughout Order Management. Usually, technical areas like APIs and flow actions use “item,” while the user interface uses “product.” Order Management works with Salesforce Flow, which makes it easy for you to create manual and automated functions. We provide out-of-the-box flow templates for processes such as order summary creation, placing orders on behalf of shoppers, order fulfillment, and order servicing. Salesforce Order Management QA Is Salesforce Commerce cloud an Order Management System? The Salesforce Order Management System is the heart of Commerce Cloud, handling everything from processing orders, accepting payments online, communicating with suppliers, tracking orders, coordinating shipment schedules, and processing returns. Is Salesforce an OMS? Salesforce’s Order Management System enables businesses to make their selling process more efficient and improve the overall customer experience. What is the difference between CRM and order management? A customer relationship management (CRM) is a tool that handles customer data like contact information and past purchases. On the other hand, an order management system (OMS) tracks orders and automates order management tasks. What are the benefits of Salesforce OMS? One of the key benefits of integrating Salesforce OMS with e-commerce is that it enables companies to cut costs. The integration allows companies to manage their logistics processes more efficiently and better align their inventory levels with customer demand. Contact Tectonic today to explore an OMS solution for your business. Landing pages are still crucial, as research indicates that businesses with more landing pages tend to experience higher conversion rates. The term “landing page” refers to a campaign-specific page with a single call to action and no website navigation. Salesforce Vlocity Acquisition

Salesforce Vlocity Acquisition

Salesforce’s Acquisition of Vlocity: A Game-Changer for the CRM Ecosystem The news of Salesforce acquiring Vlocity, though somewhat overshadowed by the end of Keith Block’s tenure as co-CEO, marks a significant milestone for the CRM giant and carries substantial implications for its ecosystem partners. Vlocity, one of the largest and fastest-growing Salesforce-native ISVs, did not initially foresee being acquired by its platform partner when it launched less than six years ago. Even after subtracting the undisclosed value of Salesforce’s own investment from Vlocity’s $163 million in venture funding, the $1.3 billion Salesforce plans to pay the remaining shareholders is a substantial return for a company projected to generate $70-80 million in revenue this year. This is based on Salesforce’s expectation of a million revenue contribution once the deal closes in the second quarter. Vlocity’s Ambitious Vision Vlocity’s founders had envisioned a much more ambitious trajectory, inspired by Veeva, the first Salesforce-native ISV to secure a stock market listing with its 2013 IPO, achieving a near billion valuation. Today, Veeva’s market cap is $22.3 billion. Vlocity aimed to replicate Veeva’s success on a larger scale, targeting multiple industries instead of just pharmaceuticals and life sciences. Founded in January 2014 by CEO David Schmaier and others with industry solutions backgrounds at CRM pioneer Siebel, Vlocity quickly developed solutions for four industries, including communications, media, insurance, and the public sector. These sectors presented an addressable market ten times larger than Veeva’s. Early customers like Telus and Sky Italia demonstrated an appetite for large-scale replacements of legacy systems. Vlocity’s portfolio now spans six industries: communications, media and entertainment, energy and utilities, insurance, healthcare, and government. Why Didn’t Vlocity Surpass Veeva? One crucial difference in Vlocity’s strategy compared to Veeva’s was its deliberate decision to keep its technology closely aligned with Salesforce’s platform. Vlocity adopted a sophisticated approach by building a packaged native application that remains continuously upgradeable with Salesforce’s platform. This extreme alignment ensured fully native compatibility for Vlocity’s customers throughout the product lifecycle but restricted its freedom compared to Veeva, which developed significant content management and regulatory workflow functionality outside Salesforce’s platform. Competition and the Misnomer of Industry Cloud Vlocity faced more intense competition than Veeva did when it started. By 2015, Salesforce was already promoting its own industry clouds, beginning with Financial Services Cloud, followed by Health Cloud, Manufacturing Cloud, and Consumer Products Cloud. Industry penetration was a key part of Keith Block’s mission after he joined Salesforce in 2013. While Vlocity was seen as an ally, Salesforce had to balance this with its growth prospects. Salesforce Vlocity Acquisition In hindsight, “industry cloud” might be a misnomer. Vlocity aimed to be unique, but other ecosystem partners were also targeting industry clouds. For example, Accenture developed a Salesforce-native vertical cloud solution for trade promotions in consumer goods and partnered with Vlocity for telecoms and media offerings. The retail banking edition of Salesforce Financial Services Cloud relies heavily on nCino’s industry solution. The middle office segment, which includes processes between CRM (front office) and ERP (back office), also plays a role in the industry cloud. Middle office processes vary by industry, with companies like Apttus, Rootstock, and FinancialForce targeting specific verticals. Salesforce’s acquisitions in CPQ, ecommerce, and B2B commerce have supported its enterprise deals across various industries. The Future for Salesforce ISVs The acquisition of Vlocity expands Salesforce’s industry cloud offerings and fuels its growth. As part of Salesforce, Vlocity has greater potential to grow than if it remained independent. This deal also includes an acquihire element, with Marc Benioff expressing excitement about David Schmaier joining Salesforce. Factors like the close relationship between Vlocity and Salesforce played a role in the acquisition, as Marc Benioff suggested during the earnings call. Analyst Ray Wang speculated that the move prevents competitors, like Google, from acquiring Vlocity. If Vlocity’s IPO dream has ended this way, it suggests that other Salesforce-native ISVs may also struggle to achieve independence. ServiceMax, for instance, was acquired by GE in 2016, only to be spun out to private equity buyer Silver Lake two years later. Salesforce recently became an investor in ServiceMax again, making its eventual acquisition seem almost inevitable. For Salesforce-native ISVs, this acquisition underscores the reality that, much like the a one way train, however much you may want to get off, you can not.
